Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Melofy ("we", "us", the "app") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Melofy music-quiz application. By using Melofy you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Display name (username)	Shown on your profile and leaderboards	Auto-generated for guests; editable.
Avatar	Profile picture	An image you upload, or a picture from your Google/Apple account if you use social sign-in.
Google / Apple identity	Optional social sign-in	If you choose it, we receive basic profile info (name, email, picture) from that provider.
Approximate country	Show region-relevant content	Derived from your IP address at request time. The IP is used transiently and is not stored on our servers; the resulting country is cached on your device.
Gameplay data	Run the game, scores, stats, achievements, leaderboards, challenges	Scores, streaks, modes played, journey progress, and challenge results.
Artist play history	Feature popular artists	A record of artists you play games about.
Date of birth	Verify you are 18 or older before enabling explicit-content songs	Only collected if you turn on "Allow explicit songs" in Settings. It cannot be edited in the app once submitted — contact us if it's wrong. Removed if you delete your account.
Analytics events	Understand usage and improve the app	e.g. game started/finished, challenge created. Tied to your account id.

2. How we use your information

To provide and operate the game (create games, score answers, run challenges).
To maintain your profile, XP, achievements, and leaderboard standing.
To show region-relevant content.
To understand aggregate usage and improve Melofy.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

3. Service providers & third parties

Supabase — our backend: authentication, database, and file storage.
Deezer — supplies music preview clips and artist search results. Playback of previews is subject to Deezer's terms.
Google & Apple — only if you choose social sign-in, to authenticate you.

4. Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account (see below), your account and associated data are removed. Limited analytics events may be retained for up to 7 days after deletion to preserve the integrity of usage metrics, after which they are permanently purged.

5. Deleting your account and data

You can permanently delete your account and its data at any time, directly in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account. See our Account & Data Deletion page for details.

6. Children

Melofy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it. Songs marked explicit by our music provider are hidden from quiz questions by default for every player, and can only be re-enabled by a player who confirms they are 18 or older (see "Date of birth" above).

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures (encryption in transit, hashed passwords, access controls) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
